This study was carried out at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. This research made comparisons between a more innovative method of losing weight, Bariatric surgery, and conventional means of dieting. After the participants have lost a significant amount of weight, they were shown images like pizza and other really great looking food. The dieter’s brain showed to be more active in the prefrontal cortex, which is known to be the area where emotion is regulated. This study showed that food meant more to dieters who have successfully lost weight.
Now, let’s take a look at those who took the laparoscopic banding surgery. This study showed that the patients belonging to this group become less interested with food. A psychologist from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Amanda Price, said that they are no longer interested in food.
This particular research was published in the journal Obesity. It was known to be the first study to determine and analyze the changes that happens in the brain whenever a person loses weight using different weight loss methods.
This study had 15 participants who took the Bariatric surgery and 16 participants took the conventional ways of weight loss. All the participants had similarities such as their age, body mass index and event their level of education.
